A Win is a Win in the 313

As a day 1 Detroit Lions fan, from the 0-16 season and all, the Lions vs Saints game is the same roller coaster game that it has been for the last 28 years of my life. I went from "This is finally the year the Detroit Lions are going to win the Super Bowl" to "This team may lose every game this year." There are a lot of great things that happened in the game, but also a lot of questions and worries for the rest of the season that will hopefully be answered.

The Detroit Lions offense was great scoring 31 points and the offense succeeding in all sections. Jared Goff chants were echoing all around the stadium as they threw for 206 yards and 2 touchdowns, it was not a jaw dropping season, but did everything that he needed to do to win the game. Amon-Ra St. Brown was the star of the game receiving wise catching 10 receptions for 67 yards and 2 touchdowns. Sam LaPorta was a great comeback game having 5 receptions for 48 yards. Jameson Williams did not have a break out game like he had one last year, but the way he runs his routes and how open he gets, he will be having a successful season.

Jahmyr Gibbs was everything he was hyped up to be… Last year week 1 against the packers he did not play that well, being stopped at the line of scrimmage multiple times, but this season, he was everywhere and could not be stopped. Career high 29 carries for 156 yards and 2 touchdowns. The offensive line was top notch with only allowing 1 sack during the game and being in complete control of the line of scrimmage, everything on the offensive side was going there way, and 31 points should win the game easily, right?

Nope… the game was too close with them winning 31-30 with the Saints having a failed 2 pt conversion in overtime. The Detroit Lions defense was playing amazing in the first half allowing 0 points, but then allowing 30 in the second half/overtime is brutal. They had multiple turnovers in the first half with fumble recoveries and interceptions, but they allowed over 410 yards of passing will not have the Lions succeed throughout this season. The pass rush was fine, having 5 sacks in the game, but there were many times when Tyler Shough had too much time in the pocket to throw all over the defense. They kept blitzing the safety that was not making it to the quarterback in time and made the secondary vulnerable. They Lions defense was successful stopping the run, but the pass defense is concerning getting ready for the Buffalo Bills in 4 days.

All in all, the Detroit Lions are 1-0 and have a big time game against the Buffalo Bills in Buffalo for the Thursday Night Game.
