My Honest Opinion on Caleb Williams

This is another year where you have multiple options of a quarterback to be the face of your team and you can either crush it and get a quarterback like CJ Strout and make the playoffs their rookie year, or get a quarterback like Bryce Young who unfortunately has had a very tough rookie year and I do not know how promising the future can look for him. With quarterbacks like Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, JJ McCarthy, and a couple others, he has some competition for the #1 pick. Here is my honest opinion on the expected #1 pick of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Caleb Williams started as a 5 star, 2021 Washington D.C. Player of the Year committing to Oklahoma following another star quarterback, Spencer Rattler. He started that season doing a great job as a backup quarterback getting some reps in the blowouts, showing the coaches how he can do. He was not expecting to get too many reps or opportunities throughout this season, just helping out as a backup. But on October 9th, 2021... Everything changed. One of the biggest rivalries in college football, Texas and Oklahoma in the big stage and the first quarter ended terribly with Texas up 28-7. Oklahoma needing a little switch up and changed quarterbacks to put in Caleb Williams and he did not disappoint. He made is HUGE plays when Oklahoma needed him the most and even had an early heisman moment on 4th down to secure the victory. He ended the game with 212 yards passing with 2 touchdowns and 88 yards rushing with a touchdown... talk about a first game showing.

After his impressive season, he got up and followed his coach to USC for his sophomore year. The guy absolutely killed it having 42 interceptions with only 5 interceptions AND WINNING THE HEISMAN AS A SOPHOMORE. He showed his pure ability and showing his ability to win the games when needed. He can run, throw, and throw on a the run. He was proving to everyone that he was capable of being a quarterback that can put the team on his back. Unfortunately, for his Junior year, things did not go as plan with USC losing a bunch of games they shouldn't have, but he still was able to show his ability. His stats slowed down a bit 30 touchdowns and only 5 interceptions but also had 112 less passes thrown. He still had his magical plays where he makes something out of nothing, and still was able to put his team in the game even if sometimes the got the loss in high scoring games.

I understand sometimes when looking at a player and to see if he is worth being the #1 draft pick and it is tough to see his Junior season record not being as good as it should have been (8-5). But, he was still able to show out and have his team score points even if they unfortunately lost the game. There are a lot of good candidates to be the #1 pick with a lot of successful quarterbacks, but with the college resume that he has shown, he deserves to be the #1 pick.
