The Best Year in Women's College Basketball
As a boy living in Connecticut for most of my life, we are not the best in many things, but nobody can beat us when we talk about Women's College Basketball. Them having over 100 wins in a row, many national championships, breaking so many records, it was amazing to watch. But the games unfortunately were boring, the games were not too close, and only a couple of teams were really good. I think this year may be one of the greatest years of Women's College Basketball with the success of the teams, the players, and the competition. Here are a couple of top things with Women's Basketball this year:
South Carolina Women's Basketball has had one of the best basketball dynasties of consistently making it to the final four and winning the big games. They have had top players, blowing out teams consistently throughout the years. As of now they are ranked #1 and after watching them play Uconn the other day, I cannot imagine them losing this season. The head coach is amazing and has been able tow in the big games. I am a big fan of this team and hoping they can make it far into the tournament.
After having an amazing season last year as she helped her team make it and win the national championship. Sometimes, after winning the big game and the fame she has been getting, the next year the player does not play in the same abilities. As of now, she is averaging 20 points, 13 rebounds, 2.5 assists a game, which is absolutely amazing. LSU is ranked 13 and with her playing the way she has been, they can go deep in the tournament and give some upsets when they have to.
Kaitlin Clark has been having one of those seasons where people will talk about forever. She has surpassed the most points in a career and averaging 33 points, 7 rebounds, 8.5 assists. She caught my attention last year in March Madness when she was shooting half court shots and upsetting South Carolina in the final 4. She has been making the game look so easy and can shoot from literally anywhere. They are ranked #4 as of right now, but if she can score 40-50 points, they can beat anyone and maybe end Kaitlin's incredible college career with a championship.
With UCONN being ranked #15 may be a compliment to the rest of college basketball about how amazing it has been this year. UCONN has had multiple injuries this year and unfortunately does not have everyone that they were expected to play this year. This coach is in my opinion, the greatest basketball coach of all time and no matter who is playing, this coach can put them in the best scenario possible to win the game. On senior night, last week, a couple of the seniors like star player Paige Bueckers, who is returning next year to play for her 5th year. This team, if healthy, can make a huge run in the tournament and I would love to see them in the final four.
This is a couple of MANY amazing teams this year who will be very fun to watch. Last year, the numbers of viewers hit an all time high for women college basketball and I am expecting it to beat those records this year. There are many star players, highly ranked teams, and exciting games to watch. I am ready for the tournament and pumped to see how it goes.
